Our tennis program provides a variety of options for adults and juniors of all experience levels.
- Clinics are grouped by age and ability and cover skills such as stroke production and movement, as well as singles and doubles play strategy.
- Camps take place in the summer, winter, and spring, and allow players to develop skills, play games, and compete.
- Group fitness classes are a fun way to play tennis with a group of individuals while featuring drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate high-energy workout.
- Leagues provide players a competitive setting to play matches against similarly skilled players.
- Private lessons are scheduled based on player, instructor, and court availability, and allow individuals to determine the content of their lesson.

Beginner: This class is designed for players with an NTRP rating from 1.0 to 3.0 which includes those new to the game or with some experience. Beginner players will work on strokes and start rallying.

Ages 4 - 5: Designed for beginners. Students in this class do not need any prior experience. Most students will be in this class for about a year or move to Herky for 5-7 years old. Students will work on hand-eye coordination, basic strokes, balance, agility, and fun! Primarily a 36 ft. court will be used.
We offer an Adults Beginner class at the same time as our Thursday Tots class.

Please see Senior Staff member before enrolling. The class will focus on both technique and rallying skills. Primarily a 60 ft. court will be used.

Hawkeye Tennis Academy
The Hawkeye Tennis Academy is designed for high performance junior players. Approval by a senior staff member is required prior to participants joining any level of the Academy for the first time, or for participants moving from one level to the next.

Orange Ball Academy
Ages 10 & under: Student need prior approval by a Senior Staff member before enrolling. Prior to enrolling, students are required to be able to rally a 60 ft. court with an instructor or peer, get 50% of services in, exhibit basic technique on groundstrokes, serves and volleys and have a positive attitude. Participants will need to have an understanding of basic strategy and will be required to play a minimum of 3 USTA Orange Ball Tournaments annually.

Match Play
Matchplay is designed for kids 6-14 years with the basic tennis skills who have either participated or are planning to start playing in tennis tournaments. Matches are played with orange, green and yellow ball. One or two instructors are present to help with scoring and the rules of the game.
Tournament information
Tennis tournaments are a wonderful way to improve your game, meet new people and develop terrific life skills. Tournaments are offered all year long with a lot of them in the summer. Children generally play a tournament in their respective age group and can earn points to earn their way to sectional and national tournaments. Private tennis lessons
Private instruction is available to players of all ages and abilities. Lessons are scheduled based on player, instructor, and court availability and typically last for one hour. If you would like to schedule a private lesson, please fill out the request form.

How do I register and what forms of payment are accepted?
How to register online:
- If you are a community member, you can set up an account here. You can also set up an account by calling 335-9293 or by visiting the CRWC member services desk to create an account. Once that's done, you'll be good to go!
- If you already have a Hawk ID or have a community account, click here to go to our online registration portal.

Payment:
- Payment must be made at the time of registration online or at the membership desk.
- Forms of payment accepted: Cash, Check (made out to The University of Iowa), Credit Card, U-bill (Cash, Check, and U-bill are in-person only).

Where are classes and clinics offered?
Classes are offered at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex is located at 2820 Prairie Meadow Drive just west of Finkbine Golf Course and across the street from UI Sports Medicine.
Where do I go when I arrive?
Please check in at the front desk when you arrive, and the staff will guide you to the proper court.
I am a parent/guardian. Can I watch my child practice?
Yes! Parents and guests interested in watching practice can do so from the viewing deck indoors or the bleachers outdoors.
What happens when there is inclement weather?
If we have an inclement weather day, we will utilize the email you used at registration to contact you. If we have staffing available, we will also make phone calls. If you are not sure if a class will be held, feel free to call 319-384-1215. We have both indoor and outdoor courts, so it is not often we need to cancel.
What should I bring to a class?
- Racquet: We have some we can loan you while you get fitted if you do not have one.
- Non-marking shoes
- Water bottle
- Workout/tennis attire
- Plan for both inside and outside on cool days in the spring and fall.
When is the deadline to register?
- Registration deadline is 5 days prior to the first date of the class.
- Late registrations: A late fee of $25 will be assessed if space is available.
What do I do if I need to cancel?
Cancellations occurring after the deadline will have a $25 non-refundable fee. No refunds will be given on any of our Series Sales (Cardio tennis, court time, USTA drills, strategy for success). Please contact Michele Conlon to inquire about cancelling your registration.
