Intramural Sports vs Sport Clubs

Many people ask about the differences between sport clubs and intramural sports. The biggest difference is that sport clubs compete against other universities while intramurals compete against other students from The University of Iowa.

Additionally, Sport clubs require a larger time commitment. Since clubs compete against other universities, they often travel to other schools. Many sport clubs also have scheduled practices on a weekly basis which participants will need to plan around. Alternatively, intramural sports do not require participants to practice before competing (although many teams do hold practices on their own).

The final major difference between sport clubs and intramurals is the level of play. Clubs compete at a higher level than intramural sports. Sport club teams will often have tryouts while intramural sports are open to anyone who wishes to participate. Because of this, sport clubs are generally more competitive while intramurals are more recreational.
