Why Personal Training?

After more than 50 years training under the loose rubric of 'bro-science,' I decided to make the commitment to get certified as a personal trainer.  After a career as a historian and archivist, I retired in 2022. In late February 2023, I took my first test in more than forty years--the ACE certification exam to become a personal trainer. I passed.  I have been working with mature clients since then. 

My training philosophy

We must recognize that we are not in our twenties. Our mature bodies demand accomodation--smart training, recovery, adaption and progressive overload. While we're closer to death than to birth, we don't have to slide into senescence.  Father Time looms on the horizon, but we can take steps to keep him at bay.  Train with minimal effective volume, recover, raise the bar, and repeat.  With proper training and focus, we can all still do hard things.
