The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, Iowa, a community of 85,000 people situated on the Iowa River in the eastern part of the state. This liberal community has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with the benefits of small-town living. The University was founded in 1847 and is the state's oldest and largest public university. About Recreational Services
Recreational Services offers a variety of programs for UI students, faculty/staff and members of the Iowa City community. Program areas include Intramural Sports, Fitness, Lesson Programs, Outdoor Programs, Tennis, Rowing, Sport Clubs, the Macbride Raptor Project, School of the Wild, Wildlife Camps and Open Recreation. We have four indoor facilities including the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, Field House, Fitness East, and Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex. We also have several outdoor recreation areas.
