Did you know that the University of Iowa is a member of NIRSA? NIRSA, originally known as the National Intramural Association, supports collegiate recreation across the country and throughout Canada.

Every year, on the day commemorating NIRSA’s founding—Feb. 22, 1950—we like to join with other universities, companies, and associations across North America to celebrate campus recreation.

On this day we remember the vision set in motion by Dr. William Wasson and his esteemed colleagues at the first NIRSA Conference: To celebrate health, activity, competition, and inclusivity. This conference convened a meeting of 20 representatives from 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities at Dillard University in New Orleans.

Join us in celebrating recreational sports and fitness with fun activities and events!
