Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Course

Wilderness First Responder takes the WFA to the next level. This is the industry standard for all professional guides, trip leaders, and outdoor recreationists! Explore in depth first aid topics such as anatomy, improvised liter carries, spinal cord management, environmental emergencies, musculoskeletal injuries, chest injuries, and more. CPR and First Aid Certification included at no additional cost.   • If you are a staff, faculty, or student, you already have an account - just use your Hawk ID and password. 
  • If you've already created an account as a member of Rec Services or for other programs (swim lessons, fitness classes, etc), you are all ready to make a reservation!
  • If you do not have an account, you create an account here by clicking "Sign Up" in the right-hand corner. Once your account is created, you should be good to go! Call 319-335-9293 with any registration issues.

Wilderness First Aid

The WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast or trip leader who wants a basic level of first aid training for short trips with family, friends, and outdoor groups. The WFA is 16 hours long (two days), and focuses on first aid knowledge such as response & assessment, trauma, environmental emergencies, and soft tissue damages. The WFA course can be used to recertify a WFR too. CPR and First Aid Certification included at no additional cost. Please contact brian-a-froelich@uiowa.edu for more details and any questions.
