March 12-16, 2018 l 1st - 6th grade

1st-3rd graders will be grouped together as will the 4th-6th grade participants.  If a camper wants to join another camper in a different grade grouping, please let staff know on the first day and we will accommodate that request.

Spend spring break week with UI Wildlife Camps learning, exploring, and growing! Our theme this year is Biodiversity Adventures. Camp activities, games and discussions this year will revolve around the following topics: Natural History of Northern Goshawks, bird calls and nests, "rabbitats," animal tracking, scavenger hunts, fossils & rocks, wilderness survival/shelter building, pond study, migrating waterfowl, bird banding, swimming at the leisure pool, yoga & climbing at the CRWC, plants and entomology of the prairie, and nature mapping.

Registration opens February 1 and is now online only! Click here to go to our registration portal. You must have an online account with us to register. If you do not have an account, we recommend setting up an account PRIOR to registration opening.  Here's what you need to know:

  • If you are a staff, faculty, or student, you already have an account - just use your Hawk ID and password. 
  • If you've already created an account as a member of Rec Services or for other programs (swim lessons, fitness classes, etc), you are all ready to go when registration opens!
  • If you do not have an account, please call 319-335-9293 or stop by the CRWC or Field House membership desk to set up an account. This is our first time with online registration and we appreciate your patience and flexibility through the transition!

Once your account is set up, you'll need to add your child as a "dependent" on your account.

How to sign up your child as a dependent:

  • Go to our online registration portal.
  • Click "sign in" in the top right-hand corner.
  • Enter your user name and password (Hawk ID and password if you are student, faculty, or staff). Click "sign in."
  • Click your username in the upper right-hand corner. 
  • Click "add a dependent."
  • Enter your child's name, birthday, gender, and address
  • Done!

How to register for camp (does not open until February 1 at 7:00a.m.):

  • Log in to your account on our online registration portal if you're not already.
  • Click "Register" in the menu across the top of connect.recserv.uiowa.edu.
  • Under "Program Categories" along the left-hand side, click "Outdoor Programs."
  • Select "Goshawk Camp".
  • When asked which family member would you like to register, select the correct name.
  • Select "Next: Add to Cart"
  • Accept waiver to continue registration.
  • Complete questions about your camper.
  • Select "Check Out"
  • Enter payment information and you're done!

Need to know info

Campers will check in and out at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex 

  • Families can drop off their campers between 7:45-8:30am. There will be supervision during this time.
  • The camp day will begin at 8:30am. 
  • Pick-up will begin at 4:00 pm. Supervision will be provided until 4:15 pm.
  • The Late Stay Program will not be provided for Goshawk Camp.
  • 1st-3rd graders will swim on Wednesday and 4th-6th graders will swim on Thursday. Please pack suit and towels for your campers.
  • 1st-3rd graders will climb on Thursday and 4th-6th graders will climb on Wednesday
  • Campers should bring their own lunch and water.
  • Dress for the outdoors and be ready to get a bit dirty.  Since this is a very unpredictable time of year, please dress warmly with lots of layers.  Keeping your head, feet, and hands warm and dry will go a long way toward keeping you comfortable. 
  • Campers are expected to be respectful to themselves, others and nature. If a camper does not follow these guidelines, staff will communicate it to families. Staff will also notify families if a camper becomes ill or injured at camp.

  • The Director reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose choices or conduct becomes detrimental to the program, participants or themselves.  No refunds will be made for dismissed campers.


These camps will utilize Macbride Nature Recreation Area (and other local natural areas), the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, and the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center for yoga, obstacle courses, climbing and swimming, which will all be warm and have restrooms available to us.  We reserve the right to change locations of the camps per our discretion.


  • Between February 5 – 16, 2018: Families receive a full refund minus the non-refundable registration fee per camp session cancelled for each participant.
  • Between February 17 –February 23, 2018: Families receive 50% refund minus the non-refundable registration fee per camp session cancelled for each participant.
  • Between February 24 – March 2, 2018: Families receive 25% refund minus the non-refundable registration fee per camp session cancelled for each participant.
  • After March 2, 2018: No refunds.
  • Refunds will not be issued for no-shows.
  • If you need to cancel, please call Jeanette Luke at 319-335-9294 and complete the online refund request form.

Medical reason for cancellation

We understand that medical issues may arise just as your child is set to attend camp. If medical personnel recommend your child does not participate due to health reasons, please call us as soon as possible to inform us of your need to cancel.  We will ask that you submit a written excuse from your child's physician. You will receive a refund minus the non-refundable processing fee per camp session for each participant. There is a $75.00 non-refundable registration fee.  If your child is sick and there is time and room, we will work with you to switch your camper to a different session.


Unplanned emergencies

In the event of an unplanned emergency that conflicts with child’s attendance at camp, you may be eligible for a refund by providing official documentation/paperwork as proof of your inability to attend. Proof is required within 7 days of requesting a refund, and will not be accepted once the camp has begun. You will receive a 50% refund minus the non-refundable processing fee per camp session cancelled for each participant.

The Director reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose choices or conduct becomes detrimental to the program or the participants.  No refunds will be made for dismissed campers.
