About Snowy Owl

Camp activities, games and discussions this year will be inspired by the lessons we learn from animals.  Animals can be our teachers. It's fun to think of all the things humans do because of observing animals. Especially in the winter when we look to mammals like the fox, deer, mouse, and beaver. Or when we look to the sky to the Eagles, Owls, Chickadees, Woodpeckers and Crows. In all sessions, we will study the subnivean zone, the woodlands habitat in winter and how freezing temperatures affect our wetlands. Our hope is to do lots of exploring in these habitats with the snow and ice around us. In addition, campers will do the following:

Session 1 and 3 activities:

  • Banding Songbirds
  • Exploring pond habitats
  • Orienteering

Session 2 activities:

  • Visiting the Raptor Center
  • Surveying Bald Eagles along the Iowa River
  • Exploring creek and river habitats
  • Climbing at the CRWC
  • Swimming at the CRWC

A lot of new knowledge will be shared and much fun will be had by all who participate in Snowy Owl Camps 2016! We are looking forward to our adventures together!
