Junior Programs

EFFECTIVE MARCH 20: A $20 late fee will be applied to all registrations after the deadline. Space is not guaranteed after the deadline. All classes have a deadline of 48 hours prior to start of class. 

The Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex’s Junior Development programs offer group instruction for players age 18 and under.  HTRC developments offer a cost effective opportunity for players to learn tennis or improve their skills while supervised by an instructor.  Development levels meet at a consistent day and time over the course of a development session and maintain a four player to one instructor ratio.  Players will learn appropriate skills and strategies that are determined by the lead instructor of the clinic. Click here to register for lessons, camps, and programs.  

10 & Under Classes

Classes will primarily utilize the 36ft. (red balls) and 60 ft. court (orange balls)

Ages 4-5, designed to work on kid’s hand-eye coordination, basic strokes, balance, agility and fun

Herky

Ages 5–7, students will learn basic strokes, start rallying and have fun with a USTA 10 & under format.

Black I

Ages 8–10, a class for beginners and advanced beginners. Students will learn basic strokes and develop rallying skills.

Black II

 Ages 8–10, designed for kids who have taken Black I or equivalent for several sessions. Kids should be able to rally and get 50% of serves in play.

10U League

Designed for Orange and Green Ball Academy level players who are starting to play on a 60 ft court or full court. A staff member will be on hand to help with scoring and basic strategy.

Deadline is March 23rd at 5:30 p.m. (48 hours) after that a $20 late fee applies.

Hawkeye Tennis Academy

Students in the HTA will be required to play USTA Tournaments and aspire to compete for their high school team. Tennis Coordinator approval required for first-time participants.

All three levels of the HTA will be training at the same time. Lead instructors will group players each day based on level. This will allow students more play time on the courts, and more playing opportunities.  Students will now have the chance to choose to play 2, 3 or 4 days per week and will select the days they will attend upon registration.

    • Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30pm April 11-May 16
    • Wednesdays 4:30-6:30pm April 12-May 17

    • 2 days a week: $300 per member/$348 per non-member
    • 3 days a week: $414 per member/$486 per non-member
    • 4 days a week: $504 per member/$600 per non-member

Green Ball Academy

3 USTA tournaments required annually (Ages 10&U)

Orange Ball Academy

Gold II

Ages 11–13, this class is designed for intermediate kids who can rally on a full court. The class will improve stroke technique; place an increased emphasis on strategy and competition.

Hawk I

 Ages 14-18, designed for students who will play for their high school team and USTA tournaments, as well as Academy players only practicing one time a week.

Private Instruction

Private and semi-private instruction is an excellent setting for an individual or small group of players to work on specific skills.  Private lessons are scheduled based on player, instructor, and court availability.  Click here for private lesson rates and information on how to schedule a private lesson.

Junior League Play

This is a weekly junior competition league. Juniors can pick the week that they want to play. Players are required to know scoring and be capable of playing points. Players will play singles and doubles. Join our email list for special schedules and cancellations.
