Training Camp: CANCELED

For students who completed 8th – 11th grade Academic Year 2019 – 2020Kestrel Corps is a service and leadership development program. 

  • Kestrel Corps will choose one day of training.
  • Participants will be transported with camps to MNRA for their training day.
  • Participants can be dropped off between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Hawkeye Rec Fields.
  • Participants can be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. at the same location.

Fee: $100 (per session)

Activities and topics will include:

  • Kestrel Corps will assist the Wildlife Camps Staff with educational and recreational activities.
  • Students will gain the opportunity to grow as leaders, work as a teammate in a variety of contexts, and participate in service projects.
  • Training will focus on team building, developing leadership skills, and what a Kestrel Corps Member should expect from their participation and the expectations asked of them. 
  • Kestrels will receive some First Aid training to help assist staff during camps. 
  • Kestrels will be transported to MNRA on the busses or vans with the campers and staff.  Driving separately will not be permitted
  • There is no fee for the week(s) the Kestrel Corps Members volunteer. Each participant may sign up for one to four weeks of volunteering. Beyond two weeks will require the approval of the directors and one coordinator.
  • The prerequisite for being in the Kestrel Corps is to attend the Kestrel Corps training camp. 
  • A celebration at the end of the summer will be held. Information will be shared closer to the date about the event.

We're excited that there are two scholarship opportunities available through E.B. Green and United Way. Thank you to these organizations for providing support to children to attend camp! If your child receives a scholarship, please register by calling Jeanette Luke at (319) 335-9293.

In order to complete a camp registration the camper must be added as a dependent when setting up an online account.

Registration is online only! Internet Explorer does NOT work with our registration portal. Please use Chrome or Firefox. You must have an online account with us to register. If you do not have an account, we recommend setting up an account PRIOR to registration opening.

Here's what you need to know:

  • You can sign up for an account at any time. Learn how to set up an account and how to register here. If you do not have an account, you can either create an account here or call 319-335-9293. Important: Once your account is set up, you'll need to add your child as a "dependent" on your account
  • If you are familiar with our online registration process, click the "Register" button below.



  • The majority of time will be spent at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Some field trips may be taken to other local natural areas.
  • We reserve the right to relocate camps as needed.
  • Unless otherwise noted, drop-off is between 7:45 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields. The buses leave at 8:30 a.m.
  • Pick-up is between 4:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. at the same location.
  • There is an option to drop-off and pick-up at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Drop-off at this site is between 8:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and pick up is between 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. at the Archery Pavilion (second left after you enter the Macbride Nature Recreation Area).


  • Families will receive a refund minus the non-refundable processing fee ($75.00) if canceling 4 weeks prior to the start of camp attending.
  • Refunds will not be issued for no-shows.
  • If you need to cancel, please call Jeanette Luke at (319) 335-9293 and complete the online refund request form.
  • The Director reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose choices or conduct becomes detrimental to the program, other participants or themselves. No refunds will be made for dismissed campers.

We understand that a medical issue or unplanned emergency may cause a camper the inability to attend camp. 

  • Please call Jeanette Luke at (319) 335-9293 and complete the online refund request form.
  • A refund may be requested minus the non-refundable ($75.00) processing fee per camp session for each participant not attending.
  • If a camper is able and there is time and room, an attempt will be made to switch the camper to a different session. (This only applies to summer and winter camps.)
