Eagle 1: Eagles, Rock Climbing, Wild Field Trips

For students who completed 1st – 3rd grades Academic Year 2018 – 2019. The main themes for Eagle Camp is Grand Geology. 

  • July 8th – July 12th
  • July 15th – July 19th
  • July 22nd – July 26th
  • July 29th – August 2nd

Activities and topics will include:

  • Golden Eagles: The Mightiest North American Raptor
  • Geology: Discovering the Earth’s Ancient Past
  • Rock Climbing: Getting on the 52’ Climbing Wall at the CRWC
  • Slacklining: Building Balance and Strength
  • Terry Trueblood Recreation Area: Dynamic Play and Scavenger Hunts
  • Team Building: Walking Through Challenges Together
  • Turkey Creek Preserve: Exploration and Discovery
  • Field Trip: Devonian Fossil Gorge

Fee: $210 (per week)

Eagle 2: Eagles, Paddle Boarding, Canoeing

For students who completed 3rd – 6th grades Academic Year 2018 – 2019. The main themes for Eagle Camp are Wonderful Wetlands.

  • June 3rd – June 7th (Due to snow days, we will refund you for any day that your school is still in session during this week.)
  • June 10th – June 14th
  • June 17th – June 21st
  • June 24th – June 28th

Activities and topics will include:

  • Bald Eagles: Our Amazing National Bird and its Comeback in Iowa
  • The Aerie: Observing a Real Bald Eagle Nest and Building a Replica
  • Stand-up Paddle Boarding: Learning a New Way to Enjoy the Water
  • Explore: “Web of Life” on “Spider Pond” 
  • Limnology: Studying Ponds, Lakes, Creeks and Streams
  • Herpetology Highlights: Facts & Myths Uncovered through the Capture and Release of Amphibians and Reptiles 
  • Canoeing: Lake Shoreline Mini-BioBlitz

Fee: $210 (per week)

Registration is online only! Internet Explorer does NOT work with our registration portal. Please use Chrome or Firefox. You must have an online account with us to register. If you do not have an account, we recommend setting up an account PRIOR to registration opening.

Here's what you need to know:

  • You can sign up for an account at any time. Learn how to set up an account and how to register here. If you have questions please call 319-335-9293 or stop by the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center or Field House Member Services desk. 
  • If you are familiar with our online registration process, click the "Register" button below.

  • The majority of time will be spent at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Some field trips may be taken to other local natural areas.
  • We reserve the right to relocate camps as needed.
  • Unless otherwise noted, drop-off is between 7:45 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields. The buses leave at 8:30 a.m.
  • Pick-up is between 4:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. at the same location.
  • We offer a Late Stay Program for campers from 4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields for an additional fee. 
    Five day camps - $35
  • There is an option to drop-off and pick-up at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area. Drop-off at this site is between 8:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and pick up is between 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. at the Archery Pavilion (second left after you enter the Macbride Nature Recreation Area).


  • Families will receive a refund minus the non-refundable processing fee ($75.00) if canceling 4 weeks prior to the start of camp attending.
  • Refunds will not be issued for no-shows.
  • If you need to cancel, please call Jeanette Luke at 319-335-9294 and complete the online refund request form.
  • The Director reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose choices or conduct becomes detrimental to the program, other participants or themselves. No refunds will be made for dismissed campers.

We understand that a medical issue or unplanned emergency may cause a camper the inability to attend camp. 

  • Please call Jeanette Luke at 319-335-9294 and complete the online refund request form.
  • A refund may be requested minus the non-refundable ($75.00) processing fee per camp session for each participant not attending.
  • If a camper is able and there is time and room, an attempt will be made to switch the camper to a different session. (This only applies to summer and winter camps.)
