You Are Here

Thank you for choosing to participate in UI Wildlife Camps this spring! We are looking forward to an adventurous week that will include fun, hands-on investigations within some of our ecosystems at Macbride Nature Recreation Area (MNRA). We will learn the science of nature while still experiencing the best of recreation. Below you'll find all the information you'll need to know for your campers to have a successful time with us!

  • In case of emergency or to notify us of an absence or for registration information, please call Jeanette Luke at 319-335-9294. If the weather is questionable, call 319-335-9294 for camp information after 7:15 a.m. A message will be left if camp is canceled. Special events and inclement weather may affect activities completed.
  • Campers are expected to be respectful to themselves, others, and nature. If a camper does not follow these guidelines, staff will communicate it to families. Staff will also notify families if a camper becomes ill or injured at camp.

What To Wear

  • Because we spend a great deal of the time outside, if not most on some days, campers should come prepared for snow, sun, rain and everything nature may bring.
  • Dress for the outdoors and be ready to get a bit dirty. Since this is a very unpredictable time of year, please dress warmly with lots of layers. Keeping head, feet, and hands warm and dry keeps campers comfortable.
  • Proper shoes are important! This could be a pair of tennis shoes or hiking boots that stay on feet snugly and are designed for hiking and exploring outside.
  • 1st – 3rd graders will swim on Thursday and 4th – 6th graders will swim on Friday. Please pack suit and towels for your campers.
  • 1st –  3rd graders will climb on Tuesday and 4th – 6th graders will climb on Wednesday. Please bring clean tennis shoes.

What To Bring

  • Campers should bring their own snack, lunch and water bottle. Additional water will be provided. We’ve seen some progress in the reduction of non-recyclable waste generated at lunchtime. We would love to see this continue. If possible, avoid over-packaged products and bring reusable containers. We will follow a carry-in/carry-out policy.

Supervised Drop-off and Pick-up Locations

When campers are dropped off and picked up, please speak with our instructors so there is no miscommunication between families and our staff - and to ensure everyone's safety. If there are changes to where a camper checks in or out please do this in writing and communicate with the camp coordinator verbally. Thank you!
