What is Unified Flag Football?
The University of Iowa Intramural Sports has partnered with Special Olympics Iowa to offer Unified Flag Football for the first time ever on our campus! In Unified Flag Football, Special Olympics athletes will be teamed up with traditional participants, called Unified Partners. Each team will have up to five Special Olympics athletes, and five partners. These teams will compete against one another in our Unified Flag Football league.

When is Unified Flag Football?
There will be a Skills Assessment on Monday, September 10 at 6:00 PM at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields. All Unified Partners will be required to attend to help with the assessment stations. The Special Olympics athletes will go through different skills assessment stations to evaluate their flag football skills. These assessments will be used to make teams. Following the Skills Assessment, all Unified Partners will be required to attend a meeting with Bryan Coffey, Director of Unified Sports for Special Olympics Iowa. This meeting will take place on Monday, September 10 at 7:30 PM, or when assessment stations are done, and will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

Our Unified Flag Football league will play on Wednesday nights at 6:45 PM at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields. There will be a practice night on Wednesday, September 12 at 6:45 PM to allow teams to practice and get to know each other. Games will begin on Wednesday, September 19. Each team will play three regular season games. All four teams will make the playoffs, which will begin on Wednesday, October 10 (weather pending). The two semifinal winners will play in the Unified Flag Football championship on Wednesday, October 24 (weather pending).
