Inner Tube Water Polo Important Information

  1. To participate in Intramural Sports, a UI Student, Faculty, Staff or Affiliate must purchase an Intramural Sports Membership. This $20.00/semester membership allows you to participate in almost any Intramural sport/event that semester. There is no cost to register a team, but team members must purchase the Intramural Sports Membership before joining/creating a team.
  2. There is no limit to the size of a team’s roster. However, a team must have six players to complete registration. A team may add players to its roster up until the start of the event.
  3. The duration of the game is 24 minutes, 2 periods of 12 minutes, with a 5-minute half-time.
  4. Before each game, all players must be on the roster and present a valid UI or government-issued photo ID to participate.
  5. Fouls will be called by the officials. No player shall hold the ball in the goalkeeper area for more than five seconds. No offensive player is permitted in the penalty area. A free toss is awarded after any rule infraction or personal foul.
  6. The defense may contact the offensive player's tube if that offensive player has the ball. The ball may be separated from the offensive player by either grabbing the ball away or by tipping the offensive player out of his/her tube.
  7. In order to begin a game, at least four players must be checked-in and ready to play within 10 minutes of a team’s scheduled game time. If this requirement is not met, the game will be forfeit.
  8. A team that forfeits a scheduled game will be charged a $50.00 Forfeit Fine to the team captain’s U-Bill.
  9. Team sportsmanship will be rated by the officials on a scale of 4-to-1, with 4 being excellent and 1 being poor. Teams must maintain an average of 2.5 or better throughout the season to qualify for the playoffs and to remain in the league. A more detailed breakdown of the sportsmanship scale can be found in the Intramural Sports Rules and Regulations.
  10. Each competing organization is allowed only one team entry to accumulate points in the Intramural Sports Points Championship presented by Coach's Corner, but there is no maximum on the amount of teams that can register for an organization. The top finishing team for each organization will be counted towards the point total. Teams must designate their organization affiliations before the event begins. To receive Co-Rec points, each team must have at least three males and three females signed-in and participating for the team at all times.
