4-on-4 Sand Volleyball Important Information

  1. To participate in Intramural Sports, a UI Student, Faculty, Staff or Affiliate must purchase an Intramural Sports Membership. This $20.00/semester membership allows you to participate in almost any Intramural sport/event that semester. There is no cost to register a team, but team members must purchase the Intramural Sports Membership before joining/creating a team.
  2. There is no limit to the size of a team’s roster. However, a team must have three players (two males and one female or one male and two females) on the roster to complete registration.
  3. Teams may add players to the roster until the scheduled tournament start time.
  4. Before participating, all players must be on the team roster and present a valid UI or government-issued photo ID to participate.
  5. Teams may participate with a maximum of two males and two females on the court, but must have at least three players present to start the match (two males and one female or one female and two males).
  6. Substitutions can only be made at the serving position. Once a substitute enters the match, he/she must rotate through every position before substituting out for another player.
  7. The ball must always be returned over the net by the third contact, unless a block is the initial contact in which case the ball must be returned by the fourth contact.
  8. Any forfeit/no-show will result in a Forfeit Fine of $50.00. This fine is charged to the University Bill of the team captain.
  9. Matches are self-officiated. All participants are expected to know the 4-on-4 Sand Volleyball rules
  10. Sportsmanship is a priority of the Intramural Sports Program at The University of Iowa. Teams exhibiting poor sportsmanship will be removed from the tournament. More information on sportsmanship can be found in the Intramural Sports Rules and Regulations.
  11. Each competing organization is allowed only one team entry to accumulate points in the Intramural Sports Points Championship presented by Coach's Corner, but there is no maximum on the amount of teams that can register for that organization. If more than one team per organization are entered, the top finishing team will be counted for points. Teams must designate their team/organization affiliations before the event begins.
  12. Want to work for Intramural Sports? We work around classes and other conflicts with flexible scheduling, and you can still play Intramural Sports. To find out how to become an official, visit our Becoming an Official webpage!
  13. Want to play but don't have a team? You can join as a Free Agent on IMLeagues.com if you have paid the Intramural Sports Membership Fee, or you can join our Free Agent Group on Facebook to connect with other people looking for more players to form a team. Listing yourself as a Free Agent does not guarantee you will be on a team, although the Intramural Sports Office will help try to facilitate formation of a Free Agent team.
