About Angela

Angela Charsha-Harney has served the UI for 18 years, committing herself to inspiring, fostering, and mentoring students and staff members with academic, work and personal development. Her interest in serving universities began at Michigan State University, where she accepted her MA in Student Affairs Administration and MS in Kinesiology. Since her arrival on UI’s campus, she has worked to guide students and staff to frame their mindset to prioritize passion as a foundation for choosing their life path. Feeling honored and fortunate to work with a highly dedicated team has kept her at UI. Angela is an Assistant Director for Recreational Services where she inspires others to find an affection for recreation and joy in movement.

Angela enjoys building strong relationships on campus and in the community. You can often find Angela volunteering at many University functions. Celebrating successes of the UI and supporting the community during challenges is of great interest. Angela can also be found in the classroom as an adjunct instructor for Health and Human Physiology. She enjoys leading internship experiences for students interested in fitness/recreation as a career. Her desire to encourage others to live richly bled into our community when she co-founded 501c3 “Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa”, with the program mission to inspire others to live joyful, healthy and confident lives. Angela founded “Hawks4Hope”, leading a UI team to run and fundraise for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She currently serves as a wish coordinator for Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Angela is a wife and mom of two and loves travel, adventure, running, and learning. Her life motto: “The more you give, the more you live”.
