Registration and Event Information

Registration Period: Tuesday, January 17 at 8:00 AM through Monday, January 31 at 11:59 PM on 

Play Begins: February 6 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC)

League Format: Teams will play three regular season matches, followed by a single elimination playoff tournament for teams that qualify. 

Sport Description

Grab your friends and come play some Indoor Soccer at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC) turf area! Teams consist of seven players on the field at one time including the goalie. Not only will you get a great workout while playing, but more importantly you will be having a blast with your friends! Each half lasts 20 minutes, running continuously.  Playoffs will consist of the top two teams in each division qualifying for a single-elimination playoff tournament.

Important Information

  1. To participate in Intramural Sports, a UI Student, Faculty, Staff or Affiliate must purchase an Intramural Sports Membership. This $20.00/semester membership allows you to participate in almost any Intramural sport/event that semester. There is no cost to register a team, but team members must purchase the Intramural Sports Membership before joining/creating a team.
  2. There is no limit to the size of a team’s roster, however, a team must have five players on the roster to complete registration. Teams can add players to the roster until the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
  3. Team captains may add players to the roster up until the game’s scheduled start time.
  4. Teams without same-colored shirts will wear clean, black or gold pinnies for matches.
  5. Before each match, all players must present a valid UI or government-issued photo ID to participate.
  6. In order to begin a game, at least five players must be checked-in and ready to play within 10 minutes of a team’s scheduled game time. If this requirement is not met, the game will be forfeit.
  7. Team sportsmanship will be rated by the officials on a scale of 1-to-4, with 4 being excellent and 1 being poor. Teams must maintain an average of 2.5 or better throughout the season to qualify for the playoffs and to remain in the league.   8. Playoffs will take place following the regular season. The top two teams in each division of four will advance to a single-elimination tournament.
  9. A leagues are for more experienced/skilled soccer players. A team that wins an A playoff tournament will receive Intramural Champion T-shirts. B leagues are for less experienced/more social soccer players. A team that wins the B playoff tournament will not receive Intramural Champion T-shirts.
  10. Any forfeit/no-show will result in a Forfeit Fine of $50.00. This fine is charged to the University Bill of the team captain.
  11. Want to play but don't have a team? You can join as a Free Agent on, or you can join our Free Agent Group on Facebook to connect with other people looking for more players to form a team.
  12. Interested in becoming an official? Indoor Soccer official’s training begins in January. If you have never officiated Intramural Sports before, you must also come to a New Official's Information Meeting prior to beginning your employment with Intramural Sports. Mandatory Online Captain's Quiz

2017 Season

  • In order to create a team, add players and select a division, each captain must pass the Captain’s Quiz. The quiz will become available Tuesday, January 17, 2017. The quiz is available by clicking the “Create Team” button on the Indoor Soccer home page on
  • All captains are encouraged to utilize the Captain’s Guide, which is available on the Intramural Sports website. Failure to utilize the resources made available to you is not an excuse for not knowing sport or program rules or regulations.

  • If a team captain fails to complete the Captain’s Quiz, he/she will not be able to register a team. A captain can take the quiz as many times as needed in order to register his/her team.
  • Space in each time slot is limited, so please have all items completed promptly.
