Johnson County Junior Tennis League | Recreational Services
University of Iowa

A fun, low key tennis league designed for kids learning to play points and matches, as well as kids who have competed in a couple USTA tournaments.

Kids will meet twice a week; once to practice and once to compete. Teams will be formed so kids can be a part of a team environment while competing. Exact format will be determined once we know the number and level of kids participating. Both singles and doubles will be played. Coaches will be on hand to guide the kids at practice and matches.

We will be offering several levels of play:

  • Orange Ball: 60 ft. court with an Orange Ball. Designed for kids 10 & under who can rally from 60 ft. court and get in about 50% of their serves.
  • Green Ball: 78 ft. (full court) with a Green Ball. Designed for kids who are just starting to play full court.
  • Yellow Ball: 78 ft. (full court) with a regular Yellow Ball. Designed for kids who can play full court.

The coaches will be able to help the kids establish which level they should play on the first day. There might be some kids who play a couple different levels throughout the league. Each ball has merits for the kid's development.

Location

Leagues will be held at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC), 2820 Prairie Meadow Drive, Iowa City. The home of the Iowa Hawkeyes with state of the art courts: 8 indoor and 12 outdoor.
