We’re excited to announce the Iowa Board of Regents has given us permission to start planning a project to renovate the Field House. It’s the first step to update the iconic facility, which has been an important part of the University of Iowa since 1927.

We are thrilled with the opportunity to provide the University of Iowa community with more recreational space in an accessible location near four residence halls. The Campus Recreation and Wellness Center has been a wonderful addition to our campus, but according to a recent feasibility study, there is still a demand for more space due to an increase in student population. We want to enhance the user experience for all members and we are confident renovations to the Field House will do just that. These improvements will also benefit academics and athletics.

Our hope is to increase the amount of fitness space within the Field House by removing the pool and renovating this area on the first floor. The project would also enable us to use recreational space as academic laboratories for health and human physiology, health and physical activity skills and sport and recreation management programs—some of the fastest-growing majors on campus.

The next step is to send the project out to bid. We will keep you informed as the project moves forward by posting updates on this page and on our social media channels. Follow us Facebook and Twitter.

We hope you are as excited as we are about this! If you have any questions, please email brian-baxter@uiowa.edu.
