Position: Swim Instructor and Climbing Wall Attendant

Year/Major: Sophomore studying Microbiology with a Chemistry minor, pre-pharmacy route

Hometown: Grayslake, IL. It's right next to Six Flags Great America! Woo!

How long have you worked for us?: This is my second semester working for the CRWC as a Climbing Wall Attendant/Swim Instructor

What have you learned from working here?: I have learned that people are truly incredible. The CRWC is a great facility, no doubt, but the people who are on staff are the reason why people come back and take up new skills or try a new activity. I've learned that being part of a community that is dedicated to being people-oriented first has helped shape some goals I have for myself and what I want my future work environment to look like.

What is something interesting about yourself?: I absolutely love having fish as pets. I worked at Shedd Aquarium for a time and I think being there made me enjoy taking care of fish, so now I have my own aquarium at my apartment with my little dude Rio swimming in it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?: I enjoy learning, so I'll pick up a random hobby every now and then to challenge myself a bit. Last semester, I learned how to do some minor maintenance on ORC bikes with a friend. It took a few days to learn, but I eventually got the hang of it.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about working in your position?: At the rock wall, I wish everyone knew how some of the most amazing people in Iowa City can be found there. As a swim instructor, everybody should know how cool it is to see how some kids can be so stoked to learn a new skill; they inspire me to try this attitude out for everything new that comes my way.

Do you have any plans after graduation?: I would most likely attend the College of Pharmacy here at Iowa, but after that, I would hopefully be working as a missionary pharmacist. I have only been on a few mission trips, but there is no doubt in my mind that I would love to work alongside physicians in the US or in another country.

If you could eat any food every day for the rest of your life without any health consequences, what would it be?: Mangoes, dried or fresh or in salsa. I'll take em in any shape or form
