Matt has been in the Rec Services family for three years and works for us not only as an Intramural Sports Supervisor, but also as a Marketing Assistant! We're lucky he likes us so much.

Position: Intramural Sports Supervisor, Marketing Assistant

Year/Major: Junior majoring in Sport and Recreation Management with an Entrepreneurial Certificate

Hometown: Batavia, IL

How long have you worked for us?: This is my third year working at Rec Services.

Favorite part of working for Rec Services: I just love all the people that I get to work with, from my coworkers to the participants. Everyone is so kind and friendly and always in a good mood.

What have you learned from working here?: I’ve learned a lot from working here, I’ve learned organizational skills, time management skills, and conflict resolution skills. There are so many different life skills that I have learned from this job, and ones that I never would have thought to be associated with this job. It’s crazy how much I have learned from working here.

Something interesting about yourself: I have never been on a plane and have never been to the ocean.

What do you in your spare time?: I like to hang out with my friends, cook, and be outside.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about working as intramural supervisor?: It’s a really fun job, sometimes it’s harder than it looks, but working here is a great and with flexible hours and great coworkers it’s probably the best job on campus.

Why did you decide to become an Intramural supervisor?: I started out as an official and loved it. I really love sports and I wanted to do more than just officiate, I wanted more responsibilities and knew I could be a good leader. If I’m being completely honest…the sweat suits were a huge draw, I really wanted one!

Any plans/thoughts on what you’ll do after you graduate?: Hopefully work in the sports industry for a professional sports team doing marketing or stadium operations.

If you could eat any food every day for the rest of your life without any health consequences, what would it be?: Could I just eat all the foods and not have any health consequences? If I have to choose it would have to be tacos.

What his supervisor(s) has to say about him:

Matt is a great leader for the Intramural Sports staff, and we can always count on him when we need some extra office help, or we need someone to help get things done. A lot of the newer staff members learn from him and see his dedication to the Intramural Sports program, which helps us develop younger staff. We’re definitely thankful for the work Matt does for Intramural Sports! - Tommy Schorer, assistant director

Matt is clearly passionate about what he does and it shows in his work. We're glad he decided he wanted to try the marketing side of things. His expertise on Intramural Sports is a huge help to the marketing team. - Kelly Teeselink, marketing coordinator
