Position: Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor

Year/Major: Graduated December 2016 with a BA in Exercise Science

Hometown: Iowa City

How long have you worked for us?: It will be 5 years in May!

What have you learned from working here?: One thing I have learned a lot about while working with Rec Services is leadership. It is important for people to know that a true leader is someone who shares their knowledge with others and gives opportunities to allow followers to grow into leaders themselves. Not someone who makes all the decisions and takes on every responsibility for a group.

Something interesting about yourself: I was a dancer for 15 years and about 5 or so of those years I was competitive. I did anything from ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical you name it until my sophomore year of high school which is when I found weightlifting and my passion for fitness.

What do you do in your spare time?: I usually spend my spare time training, eating, or hanging out with my dog

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about working as a Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor?: One thing I wish people knew about working as a fitness coach and just the fitness journey in general is that it’s not just about programming exercises for physical transformation. It is about creating a positive environment where discipline, confidence, and a strong mindset can be developed so when a client or member leaves you they have the tools they need in order to succeed and live a long, happy, and healthy life. Exercising/ training does so much more for people than what meets the eye and that is what makes this job so amazing.

What are you plans for after graduation?: Just going to continue training and see where life takes me! (:

If you could eat any food every day for the rest of your life without any health consequences, what would it be?: Steak tacos from La Regia!
