Position: CRWC Head Lifeguard

Year/Major: I am a second year student, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Hometown: Marshall, MN

How long have you worked for us?: I have worked for Recreational Services for one and a half years.

What have you learned from working here?: Working in Aquatics as a Head Lifeguard has taught me how to be a more effective leader. I have been able to strengthen my communication and presentation skills, learn new ways to inspire the staff, and become a stronger communicator.

What is something interesting about yourself?: I have ridden RAGBRAI 5 times, starting in 2012.

What do you like to do in your spare time?: In my spare time I enjoy spending the time with my friends and family, enjoying the outdoors when the weather is nice, keeping up with Grey's Anatomy, staying active, and spending time with the NLFD crew.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about working in your position?: One thing I wish everyone knew about working as a Head Lifeguard is the unique experience you get from being a student employee as well as a supervisor. I am fortunate enough to work closely with my supervisors, Phil and Emilly, each and every week so I get experience working with the professional staff and learning a lot from them. I also am fortunate to work with the Lifeguard staff on a daily basis so I get to help them and see them grow through their time with Recreational Services.

Do you have any plans after graduation?: After graduation, I hope to stay in the Iowa City area and work as a Nurse in the Emergency Department, and eventually go back to obtain my Nurse Practitioner License.

If you could eat any food every day for the rest of your life without any health consequences, what would it be?: Chicken Burrito from Pancheros with queso.
