Position: Fitness Assistant and Zumba Instructor

Year/Major: 1st year in the Ph.D. Counseling Psychology Program

Hometown: Columbus, Georgia

How long have you worked for us?: This is my 3rd year.

What have you learned from working here?: I've learned that fitness is versatile. The University of Iowa has offered me so many opportunities to learn and grow in regards to my own fitness journey, but also how to provide/guide others to pursue fitness formats that work for them.

What is something interesting about yourself?: I have an interesting one and a weird one, I am a certified scuba diver and I can do the Donald Duck sneeze.

What do you like to do in your spare time?: I love being active, so running and cycling, but I also looooove me some Netflix. It's all about balance, I think.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about working in your position?: How rewarding it is to see people enjoy working out. I feel blessed to be in this position.

Do you have any plans after graduation?: Oh goodness, I haven't even truly thought about that yet. I would love to travel and provide services to those who don't have access to mental health services, so maybe something along those lines. I have 5 years to go so I have some time to ponder it.

If you could eat any food every day for the rest of your life without any health consequences, what would it be?: Oh wow, that is a hard one. I love peanut butter, like to a shameful degree, so essentially anything with peanut butter. I also love pizza. Oh, and pasta! Ugh, this is too hard, I can't decide.

What Courtney's supervisor has to say about her: "Courtney is an indispensable asset to the Fitness Team, the members she proudly services, Recreational Services, and the Hawkeye community. Her role as a fitness instructor and fitness assistant has enables people to excel, helped them discover their own wisdom, engage themselves entirely in everything they do, and accept the responsibility for making change. The 'what to do' can be taught; the how to do it is not easy to pass on. Courtney simply "Get's it!" her personality is infection to all she comes across. For that, I thank her! -Matt Stancel, Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness
