Aquatics Student Manager

Location: Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC)

Supervisor: Assistant Director, Aquatics

Rate of Pay: $10.50/hour (starting wage)

To assist in the hiring, training, and supervising of student staff. Work with assigned program Assistant Director(s) and Associative Director. Make independent decisions and exercise good judgement in the absence of a full-time supervisor.


  • Assist in the hiring, training, and supervising of student staff
  • Ensure and track proper start dates for students and completion of paperwork with Recreational Services Human Resources
  • Assist with creating student schedules
  • Ensure biweekly time records are accurate and approved by payroll cutoff
  • Handle requests and inquiries from customers and guests in a positive manner. Handle last minute requests
  • Train, direct, and evaluate the work of student staff. Provide leadership and serve as a professional role model
  • Assist with and schedule Iowa GROW conversations with students
  • Responsible for scheduling and contributing to performance evaluations for student employees, following all HR guidelines and procedures
  • Participate in management team meetings as necessary
  • Complete daily records and reports as assigned
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Enrolled as a UI student during academic year
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed 
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible in scheduling
  • Minimum one semester working for UI Recreational Services is preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred
