Location:         Macbride Nature Recreation Area (MNRA) or State Parks throughout Iowa

Supervisors:     Coordinator of Wildlife Camps and Assistant Director – UI Wildlife Camps

 Rate of Pay:     $10.00/hr

Function

To assist with the operations of the University of Iowa Wildlife Camps Program at either MNRA or various state park locations.  Coordinate schedules and activities for students and staff of assigned camp.

Responsibilities

  • Designing environmentally-based activities for daily groups participating in camps as well as recreational activities for the entire camp.
  • Arrive at camp check-in punctually and stay until campers have gone home or leave upon assistant director’s discretion at the end of the camp day.
  • Be self-motivated, energetic and willingness to be flexible in duties and interactions with students.  Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Focusing on working as a team with others, such as Wildlife Camp Instructors, Coordinators, Bus Drivers or other collaborators.
  • Use good communication skills when meeting with students, parents/guardians, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Oversee the care and safety of students participating in camp.
  • If working at a non-MNRA location:
    • Weekly travel with overnight stays at various state park locations.
    • Ability to work more than 40 hours each week.

Qualifications

  • Two years experience in a leadership position working with youth
  • Interest in the natural world.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Mandatory attendance at orientation training for UI Wildlife Camps.

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check and pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • Certification of First Aid, CPR/AED or willingness to obtain.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
