Rate of Pay:     $8.25/hour

What you will learn

You can expect to learn skills such as time management, how to work in a team based environment, working with clients, graphic design knowledge such as video editing and skills for various software, and working with people from diverse backgrounds as well as part of a team.  Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.

Function

Work with the marketing staff to produce a variety of promotional materials for all Recreational Services program areas.  Items may include posters, fliers, brochures, logos, t-shirts and web graphics. 

Responsibilities

  • Utilize established visual elements and branding standards. Create products for a single audience or for general, undifferentiated audiences.
  • Design primarily for a single medium (e.g., print). Develop small-scale, stand-alone pieces (e.g., brochures or flyers). Implement routine changes or updates to established pieces.
  • Respond to specific requests.
  • Select from existing photography or illustration. Coordinate print production under supervision.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all Recreational Services programs and facilities.
  • May be required to work special events outside normal hours of operation.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, nationalities, genders, ages, etc.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, functional and marketable facility.
  • Ability to utilize assigned resources and leverage existing resources to achieve or exceed desired outcomes. Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results.
  • Ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. Ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply design principles to the development and publication of organizational information.
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques to produce graphic communications materials.
  • Knowledge of the processes and tools for design, development and publication of various organizational materials such as press releases, briefings, and marketing materials.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Graphic Design Courses is desirable. (Typography, GDI, etc…)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Portfolio of design work brought to interview (Illustration, Page Layout, Photography).
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make a one year commitment.  
  • Ability to attend mandatory training.
