Pay Range:  $8.60/hour (starting wage)

The Equipment Technician at the University Aquatic Center is responsible for the routine care, maintenance, and management of all Aquatic Center computer and electronic equipment including (sound systems, scoreboards, and timing equipment). The event technician is present at all Aquatic Center competitive and recreational events during which technical equipment is used.    


  • Event preparation and setup including pool configuration, timing system, public address systems, scoreboard and meet management computers.
  • Manage and respond to operational problems during events.
  • Light equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Inventory management and inspection/cleaning schedules.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.


  • Excellent computer and technical skills required. 
  • Operational knowledge of competitive aquatic events strongly desired.
  • Outstanding customer service skills; competent computer and audio-visual skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Ability to lift and move tip and roll bleachers along with some heavy lifting.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to accommodate a variable work schedule that may include early mornings, late evening, weekends and University breaks (e.g. Thanksgiving, Spring Break & Summer).

Training/Certification Requirements

CPR/AED for Lifeguards (or Professional Rescuer) desired, can be acquired after hire.   Completion of University of Iowa Bloodborne Pathogens training.
