Fit Check

Fitness Testing provides a measure of your cardiovascular and muscular fitness, flexibility and body composition. Knowing these parameters of fitness is important in determining an effective exercise program design and can serve as a great motivational tool to help you continue on your path toward your fitness goals. Qualified staff will lead you through the assessment protocols and educate you on what the results mean. Interested in getting your fitness level tested? Get a FitCheck by signing up for a full body assessment or any of the following tests individually:

Full Body Assessment

Physiological Assessment: The Physiological Assessment is a full fitness assessment measuring heart rate, blood pressure, aerobic fitness, body composition, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Your aerobic fitness is assessed through a submaximal exercise step test, which will result in aerobic fitness values being somewhat less accurate than if a maximal exercise stress test was performed. Body composition is estimated via a 3-site skinfold caliper measurement. Muscular endurance is measured via a sit-up and /or push-up test. Muscular strength is measured with a bicep curl test. Flexibility is measured via a sit-and-reach test. The time requirement for this option is only estimate for 40 - 50 minutes.
Cost: UI Student $20 / Non-UI Student: $40

Reassessment:

Time to reassess? Stay on track and/or evaluate if your current program is working for you! If you have already had a full body assessment wtih us, you will get 1/2 off the initial price for your reassessment.
Cost: UI Student $10 / Non-UI Student: $20

Individual Tests

Submaximal Aerobic Capacity: Your aerobic fitness is assessed through a submaximal exercise step test, which will result in aerobic fitness values being somewhat less accurate than if a maximal exercise stress test was performed. The time requirement for this test is 15 minutes.
Cost: UI Student: $10 / Non-UI Student: $15

Body Composition: A three-site skinfold measurement is used to predict relative body fat. Skinfold measurement sites differ between the sexes: chest, abdomen, and thigh for men; triceps, suprailiac, and thigh for women. This body compositions technique is not as accurate as is a hydrostatic weighing, but still esitmates body fat with reasonable accuracy (+/- 3.5%). Therefore, it is a technique which is appropriate for those interested in a general understanding and reasonable estimation of their body fat percentage. It is also a good technique to use to monitor changes over time.
Cost: UI Student $8 / Non-UI Student $15

Flexibility: Flexibility is the ability to move a joint through its complete range of motion. A sit-and-reach protocol will be conducted to measure hamstring flexibility. The protocol involves slow, static stretching of the muscles. Proper warm-up will be performed prior to the test to minimize the risk of soreness or injury.
Cost: UI Student $5 / Non-UI Student $8

Muscular Endurance (sit-up, push-up): Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle group to execute repeated contractions over a period of time sufficient to cause muscular fatigue, or to maintain a voluntary contraction for a prolonged period of time. Sit-up and/or push-up protocols will be used to evaluate the endurance of the abdominal muscle groups and upper body muscles, respectively.
Cost: UI Student $8 / Non-UI Student $15

Payment Options

Recreational Services accepts various forms of payment including: Cash, Check, Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard) or U-Bill Charge.
