A membership to Recreational Services is required to access all recreation facilities on campus, including the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center (CRWC), Field House, Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex (HTRC), Fitness East and the Recreation Building. Once inside, most activities, including swimming, fitness, racquetball, basketball, volleyball, and Group Exercise classes are included with the membership. Beyond access to all recreation facilities on campus, members also receive discounts on program registration (including Lesson Programs, Rowing, Tennis Programs, Aquatics and Adventure Trips), and reduced tennis court fees.
Recreation Memberships are included in tuition and fees for currently enrolled UI students . Memberships are available for purchase for everyone else. Membership Categories are Fac/Staff/Retiree/Affiliate, Alumni and Community. Sponsored Adult, Sponsored Dependent and Family memberships are also available. Memberships are sold in yearly, four-month, and monthly increments and are sold throughout the year. A daily walk-in fee option is also available. Memberships can be purchased at the CRWC, Field House and HTRC.
University ID’s or Recreational Services issued membership cards must be presented at check-in each time a member accesses a Recreational Services facility. All non-UI student members will have their picture taken when signing up for a membership.
Payment Options
Recreational Services accepts cash, check, credit card (Master Card or Visa), or gift card for all Membership Types. UI Students and Faculty/Staff can also pay by charging to their UBill. Perpetual payroll deduct is available for Faculty/Staff for annual memberships only
Membership Definitions
- UI Student – Enrolled: Any current UI student who is paying mandatory student fees.
- UI Student – Not Enrolled: This reduced membership is available for ONE session (Fall,Spring, or Summer) for anyone who meets any one of the
following criteria: A) a student who has been admitted to the University of Iowa ONE session prior to their enrollment, B)
A student who is taking a session off during their enrollment at the University of Iowa, C) a student who has just graduated from the University of Iowa.
- 2 + 2 Student: Any student who is enrolled in the first two years of the 2+2 program.
- Student Sponsored Adult: A UI Student or 2+2 Student can sponsor one adult. The adult must reside in the same household as the student. The student must be a current Recreation Member in order to sponsor a Student Adult Member.
- Student Sponsored Dependent: A UI Student or 2+2 Student can sponsor all dependents for which they are legal guardians. The fee listed is the fee per dependent. The student must be a current Recreation Member in order to sponsor a Student Dependent.
- Student Family: A UI Student or 2+2 Student can sponsor all members of their household through the family rate, assuming the student is a current Recreation Member. A maximum of two adults, including the student, can be included under the family rate.

Membership Definitions
- Fac/Staff: Any Merit or Professional and Scientific employee with an appointment with the university, regardless of the percentage.
- UI Retiree: Any former UI employee who has a valid UI Retiree Photo ID.
- Affiliates: Staff who have an affiliate status with the University of Iowa. This includes staff at the Daily Iowan and the UI Foundation.

Perpetual Memberships
A Perpetual Membership is deducted monthly from a
faculty/staff university paycheck. There is a one time $25 setup fee.
A Perpetual Membership requires a minimum of 6 deductions, not including the setup fee, before it can be cancelled.
A payroll deduct Cancellation Form (PDF) must be completed & submitted to Membership Services to cancel.

Student Recreation Fee Refund
University employees who are enrolled for classes at the
UI will be assessed the student recreation fee.
Those UI employees who have purchased a Recreational Services membership
may apply for a refund of the student recreation fee paid.
To receive the refund, the University employee must submit this form
no later than the last day of classes for the semester for which a refund is requested.

- Alumni: Must hold a degree from the University of Iowa. The category requires proof of graduation. A degree verification form is available through isis.uiowa.edu. For help logging onto ISIS, contact the Office of the Registrar, 319-335-0238.

Code of Conduct
Recreational Services is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment that fosters the physical and mental development of our members and guests. The staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where all members and guests can enjoy the facilities and programs free from behaviors that are considered disruptive. Disruptive behavior will be determined by the Recreational Services Staff. All members, guests, and staff are expected to respect the rights of others and to follow all University policies and codes as well as all facility rules and procedures. Appropriate attire should be worn according to the specific activity area. Unauthorized use of membership cards may result in the revocation of member privileges. Because the use of recre-ational facilities is a privilege, actions that go against the Code of Conduct may result in partici¬pant being removed from the building and/or termination of membership by the Recreational Services staff or the University of Iowa Police and a refund will not be issued.
ID Policy
University ID's or Recreational Services issued membership cards must be presented at check-in each time a member accesses a Recreational Services facility. All non-UI student members will have their picture taken when signing up for a membership. Members will be allowed to forget their ID twice per academic session (fall, spring, summer) and must fill out a Forgotten ID form each time. All subsequent times that a member forgets their ID during the current session, they must pay the Forgotten ID walk-in fee to enter the facility. The Forgotten ID walk-in fee is $5 for the CRWC, Field House, HTRC and Fitness East. At the Recreation Building, the daily fee, $2, will be charged.
As of January 22nd, Recreational Services will require a photo ID for anyone 14 and older when purchasing a daily pass or a membership.
Membership Update
Refund Policy
The amount of time used in the membership will be rounded up to the nearest month and then refunds are given based on increments subtracted from the initial membership package.
Examples:
- If you have purchased a month membership and have used two weeks, you will not get refunded.
- If you have purchased a four month membership and have used two months, you will be charged for two monthly rates and refunded the difference from the four month membership.
- If you have purchased a summer membership and have used one month, you will be charged for a one month membership and refunded the difference from the summer membership.
- If you have purchased a yearly membership and have used six months, you will be charged for a four month membership plus two monthly rates and refunded the difference from the yearly membership.
Refunds will be given by gift card, UBill, or credit card.
Cash refunds will not be issued for any type of refund unless it was for a walk-in within 30 minutes of checking in.
All refunds will be handled at the CRWC or Field House by the Membership Services Coordinator.
The University of Iowa is a PASSPORT School with NIRSA.
NIRSA is the national governing body for campus recreation.
The PASSPORT designation allows visitors to the University of Iowa, who are faculty/staff recreation members at their home institution, to register for a voucher to work out for free while at Iowa.
It also allows our Faculty and Staff who are recreation members at Iowa to request a voucher for recreation access when visiting other passport schools.
