The P. Sue Beckwith, M.D., Boathouse opened September 2009 as a joint project involving the City of Iowa City, the Athletics Department, and Recreational Services. It is home to the Women’s Rowing Team, the Men’s Rowing Club, and the Hawkeye Community Rowing Program. The boathouse is located on the Iowa River in Terrell Mill Park at 1201 North Dubuque Street across from the Mayflower Residence Hall. Some public parking is available at the facility.

Boathouse reservations are available for University of Iowa and community groups. Available rental spaces and approximate capacities are as follows:

  • River-Level Boat Apron: 50 people
  • 1st Floor Atrium: 30 people
  • 2nd Floor Conference Room: 30 people (The television screen has a computer connection and DVD player available.)
  • 2nd Floor Outdoor Deck: 50 people

    Each space is available for reservation in a five-hour time blocks (no prorating). The cost is $300 per space for off-campus users, and on-campus users paying with a blue requisition pay $200 per space.

    Any catering service may be used. A University Catering contract is required to serve alcoholic beverages (Find it here). Any additional seating or tables may be rented through an outside provider or brought in if event setup will not interfere with regular building operations. If setting up event tents, non-permanent anchors must be used.

    To schedule a boathouse tour, contact the Recreational Services’ Rowing Coordinator. Reservations are scheduled by Athletics.
