MNRA is a 485-acre tract of land leased by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the University of Iowa since 1984. There are several hiking and cross-country skiing trails totaling ten kilometers. MNRA is also the home of the Environmental Education Programs: School of the Wild, Wildlife Camps, and Macbride Raptor Project. MNRA is located 15 miles north of Iowa City on Mehaffey Bridge Road, near Solon, Iowa. Some parking is available near the Social Center. There is also a main parking lot near the individual camp sites.

Advance reservations can be made beginning April 1st and must be made at the Field House Membership Desk, M-TH, 7:30 AM – Close, 48 hours or more in advance of desired time. By Wednesday at noon for Friday evening and by Thursday at noon for Saturday and Sunday. The list of advance reservations is posted daily at the main parking lot at MNRA. Sites, other than Bluestem Campsite & Social Center, NOT reserved are available on a first come first served basis at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area by completing the reservation agreement.

Raptor Center Tour Information

Several species of permanently disabled hawks, eagles, falcons and owls are displayed at the Raptor Project, which overlooks the Iowa River. Tours must be pre-arranged by calling (319) 398-5495. Individuals interested in programs, volunteering for the Raptor Project or needing to report an injured raptor can contact the Macbride Raptor Project at (319) 398-5495.
