This facility opened during the summer of 2010. It boasts 20,000 square feet of fitness space over three levels, a 52 ½ foot climbing wall, a 50-meter competitive swimming pool, an 18 foot deep diving well, a Leisure Swimming Pool, a 1/9 mile jogging track, two basketball/volleyball courts, 1 multi-activity Gym, a café, locker rooms, upgrade club locker rooms, a Wellness Suite and the Recreational Services Administrative Suite.

The Leisure Pool features include zero-depth entry, bubble benches, a 25-person spa, a Vortex, a current channel (also known as a Lazy River), Water Volleyball, Water Basketball, a climbing wall and a Video Board.

The Wellness Suite brings together staff from UI Wellness, Health Iowa and Recreational Services for fitness assessments and nutrition counseling. Massage Therapy is also available.

The CRWC is located on the southwest corner of Burlington and Madison Streets. Parking is available one block southeast.

AQUATIC CENTER INFORMATION

General Pool Rules

  • A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.
  • Emergency Signal—3 whistle blasts. Exit the pool immediately.
  • No diving in the shallow end of the swimming pool and in other areas where it is marked “NO DIVING”.
  • No horseplay in or around the swimming pool.
  • No running on the deck.
  • Proficient swimming ability is required in deep water areas.
  • Do not enter the pool if you have a communicable disease or an open wound.
  • Shower before entering the pool and after use of restroom facilities.
  • Proper swimwear is required.
  • Glass containers are prohibited in the pool area.
  • Do not bring food, drink, gum, alcohol, or tobacco products into the pool.
  • Swimming or diving instruction may be provided solely by Recreational Services aquatics staff or approved groups.
  • Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.

Natatorium-Competition Pool

  • Depth: 7ft-9ft
  • Pool Temp: 79-81 Degrees F
  • Open Rec. Format: Lap Swim Only
  • Configuration Schedule:

  • *The above are general timelines for the competitive pool configuration. There may be instances within either period of time where the pool is setup in the opposite or another configuration based on the pool programming or special event schedule.

COMPETITION POOL RULES

  • Maximum Capacity: 647 Patrons
  • A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.
  • Emergency Signal—3 whistle blasts. Exit the pool immediately.
  • Proficient swimming ability is required. Flotation devices may be used only during supervised
  • instructional classes or with consent of the aquatic director.
  • No swimming or reaching beneath the moveable bulkheads.
  • Use of starting platforms is limited to approved user groups.
  • Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
  • All general pool rules apply.

Natatorium-Diving Well

  • Depth: 14ft-17ft
  • Pool Temp: 82-84 Degrees F
  • Open Rec. Format: Lap Swim, Open Rec. Diving

COMPETITION DIVING WELL RULES

  • Maximum Capacity: 128 Patrons
  • A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.
  • Emergency Signal—3 whistle blasts. Exit the pool immediately.
  • Proficient swimming ability is required. Flotation devices may be used only during supervised instructional classes or with consent of the aquatic director.
  • Use of diving towers and diving harnesses is restricted to authorized collegiate divers, or approved groups, under the direct supervision of certified diving coaches or instructors.
  • When diving boards and diving towers are in use, swim only in designated areas.
  • Goggles and other eyewear may not be worn while using the diving boards or diving towers.
  • When recreational diving is available:
  • Only the inside 1-meter and inside 3-meter springboards may be used.
  • Springboard fulcrum must be set in the forward-most position.
  • All jumps and dives must be in a straight-forward direction.
  • Back dives, inward dives, reverse dives, spins, handstands, and seat drops are not permitted.
  • Only one person on a diving board at a time.
  • Only one bounce per jump or dive is allowed.
  • Swim directly to the nearest stair and exit the pool after each entry.
  • Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
  • All general pool rules apply.

Leisure Pool

  • Depth: 0ft-8ft
  • Pool Temp: 84-85 degrees F
  • Spa Temp: 101 degrees F
  • Open Rec. Format: Open Swim w/ Laps, Open Swim w/ Basketball & Volleyball

Leisure Pool Rules

  • A Recreational Services lifeguard must be present before entering the water.

  • No diving anywhere in the leisure pool.
  • Proficient swimming ability is required in deep water areas.
  • Only U.S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices or those provided by Recreational Services may be used.
  • Infants and toddlers who are not toilet-trained must wear swim diapers.
  • Responsible supervising adult must be within arms-reach of non-swimmers.
  • Activity deemed unsafe by the lifeguard will be prohibited.
  • All general pool rules apply.

Field House Pool

  • Depth: 4ft-17ft
  • Pool Temp: 81-82 degrees F
  • Open Rec. Format: Lap Swim, Open Diving

Aquatic Program Policies

  • The University of Iowa lifeguards have the right to remove anyone for behavior that is deemed either unsafe or inappropriate.
  • The University of Iowa lifeguards have final authority on all matters concerning safety and emergency situations in the CRWC or Field House pools until relieved by proper authorities.
  • The emergency procedure signal is three whistle blasts—please exit the pool immediately and follow the lifeguards’ instructions.
  • Use of the pools in the CRWC and Field House are prohibited unless supervised by a University of Iowa lifeguard or authorized coach or instructor who is present on deck at all times.
  • The ability to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) without stopping is required in deep water areas.
  • The use of flotation aide devices (other than those made available by Recreational Services) by non-swimmers is prohibited unless authorized by the Aquatic Director. This includes non-Coast Guard approved lifejackets, water wings, kickboards, pull-buoys, etc. Exceptions: proficient swimmers engaging in exercise or training programs, persons participating in supervised instructional classes, persons with disabling conditions, and infants/toddlers using baby floats in direct contact with a supervising adult.
  • The use of personal training equipment (i.e. goggles, hand paddles, fins, kickboards, and pull buoys) is permitted during lap swim. All other equipment (i.e. SCUBA tanks, dive gear, beach balls, water polo balls, water toys, etc.) is prohibited from use during lap swim in lanes designated for lap swimming.
  • The use of the diving platforms and diving harnesses is limited to authorized, registered collegiate and USA Divers, or approved groups providing appropriate insurance, and under the direct supervision of certified diving coaches or instructors.
  • The use of starting platforms is limited to authorized, registered collegiate and USA Swimmers, or approved groups providing appropriate insurance, and under the direct supervision of certified swimming coaches or instructors.
  • Swimming or reaching underneath the moveable bulkheads is prohibited.
  • Blocking or restriction of fire lanes or emergency exits is prohibited.
  • The use of the emergency phone is limited to authorized personnel (Recreational Services Staff or Iowa Swimming and Diving Coaches), unless directed by Aquatic Program staff.
  • Animals are not allowed in the pool areas except for the express purpose of assisting persons with disabling conditions.
  • The CRWC and Natatorium pools are tobacco free and smoke free facilities.
  • No food or beverages allowed in the Natatorium pool area except water in unbreakable containers. Food and beverage may be consumed in the Leisure Pool area, but must remain at the tables.
  • No running on the pool deck.
  • Proper swimwear is required in the University of Iowa CRWC and Field House pools. Long pants, cut-off jeans or sweatpants, long-sleeve shirts, street shoes or tennis shoes, cut-off shirts, and thong-style bikinis or swim suits are prohibited. Swim attire must fully cover genitalia and buttocks for males, and must fully cover breasts, genitalia, and buttocks for women. Swim diapers are required for non-toilet trained patrons, and must be covered by proper swim attire such as swim trunks/swimsuit.
  • Use of bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, and other personal transportation devices inside the pool areas is prohibited except for the express purpose of assisting persons with disabling conditions.
  • No glass allowed anywhere in the pool areas.
  • State of Iowa pool rules must be obeyed.

Tropical Smoothies is located at the NEW Campus Recreational and Wellness Center. This cafe location offers a variety of smoothie choices and healthy food options.

Party Packages

Leisure Pool Party

Pool party package rates apply to all groups interested in holding a party at the CRWC Leisure Pool. Party times are subject to availability. All rates include pool rental and lifeguards. Food provided by Papa John’s Pizza including 2-liter bottles of soda, plates, cups and napkins. User must provide cake and serving utensils if desired.

Birthday Party: *Maximum of 25 swimmers

$150 - *Does not include pizza and soda
$200 - * Includes 6 large one-topping pizzas and 3, 2-Liters of soda

Available Times:
* Times include one hour and thirty minutes in the leisure pool and one hour for eating in either the Wet Classroom or Aquatic Lounge.

Saturday 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM or 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Reservations:
Birthday parties can be reserved up to four months ahead of the requested date. Reservations must be made by phone, 319-384-3439.

Deposits:
A $50.00 deposit is required in order to secure your party reservation and must be paid at the time your party is booked. If you do not cancel your party, this fee will be put towards the total cost of the event.

Cancellations:
If you wish to cancel your party you must do so two weeks prior to your party date in order to get a full refund of your $50.00 deposit fee. If cancelled within two weeks of your party, you will not receive your original deposit back. This policy also applies if you wish to switch your party date, if you do wish to switch a date and we can accommodate you, it must be done two weeks before your original date was scheduled.

Climbing Wall Party

The climbing wall is available to rent for unique social events such as birthday parties, scout troop outings, workplace socials, residence hall and Greek community events.
