Code: REC1644 Shorin Ryu Karate (+16 years)
Shorin-Ryu Karate is noted for it's aggressive centerline attacks using the hands, elbows and feet. Central to Shorin-Ryu training are the kata. These exercises were developed to simulate all aspects of weaponless combat. They represent a series of offensive and defensive maneuvers incorporating blocking and striking techniques against a variety of attacks. All classes are conducted in an orthodox manner emphasizing traditional oriental discipline. The University of Iowa Shorin-Ryu Karate program was established in 1969 and is one of the oldest continuously operating karate schools in the US. The instructor is a 6TH degree black belt. Code: REC1995 Learn To Row
No prior experience is needed. Rowers will learn the basics of the sport of rowing including proper technique and bladework, rowing terms, safety, and teamwork. Indoor rowing machines, an indoor rowing tank, and racing shells (adult and high school only) are used. Adult and high school rowers who are not able to swim wear a low-profile, self-inflating personal floatation device on while in the water. All equipment is provided. Rowers should bring a water bottle and wear or bring exercise clothing that is appropriate for indoors and outdoors. Clothing should not be overly loose or baggy. Also be sure to have sunscreen and sunglasses or a hat when it’s sunny. High school and adult participants should have an extra shirt and pair of shorts to wear and transportation from the boathouse to the CRWC pool for the swimming evaluation on the first day.

This course is designed to teach the entry level technical and interpersonal skills necessary to lead a challenge course event on a low and high ropes course. Participants will learn to lead teambuilding activities and successfully process them. Participants will also leave with the ability to competently implement safety protocols and procedures for all low and high ropes course elements. Participants will receive an ACCT Level 1 Practitioner Certification after successfully completing a comprehensive and practical test.
